All area students are invited to become designers in The Dispatch’s second annual Design an Ad contest. The deadline for entries, originally set for Dec. 13, has been extended to Friday, Dec. 20. Teachers interested in having students participate are asked to contact Dispatch Advertising Director Beth Proffitt at 662-328-2424 or email email@example.com.
Each student entering has the option of producing either a computer-generated or hand-drawn ad entry for a business that will be assigned to them. A cash prize of $50 will be awarded to the winners. Judges will consist of Dispatch advertising and graphic design departments.
“How an ad is constructed, the wording used, the font chosen, the art displayed and the color choice are things we think about every day here The Dispatch,” said Proffitt. “We want the ads that publish in the paper to catch our readers’ attention and to benefit our advertisers and their businesses.”
The contest offers the opportunity for area students to learn about marketing and ad design. Selected entries will be published in a Dispatch special section March 30, 2014. Students are also invited to submit written entries such as essays and poetry.
“To say we have some very talented artists in our area is an understatement, and it was a delight seeing what the students produced last year,” Proffitt said.
