Vacationers to the Mississippi Gulf Coast should add the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi to their itinerary. Three new dramatically contrasting exhibits are now open: “Following the Light-France to Mississippi: Paintings by Frank Janca”; “Shearwater: The Christopher and Kristen Hogan Collection”; and “Visions: Art Outside the Box.” The exhibits offer the museum visitor a range of art experiences from Renaissance painting techniques to an American ceramic vernacular, to outside or naive art, sometimes referred to as brut or raw art.
Janca is a native of the Gulf Coast; his vibrant oil paintings filled with color, space and light are exhibited nationally and internationally. The Shearwater exhibit features collectible pieces created at the well-known Ocean Springs pottery. Visions showcases the work of five visionary artists with roots in Mississippi and Louisiana.
A free public reception will be held June 28, from 5-7 p.m. The museum is located at 386 Beach Boulevard in Biloxi.
