Thin is in! Yes, you heard that right. At last women who have been struggling with thin hair have more options than ever before for beautiful hair. I remember my Aunt Mary fondly. Somewhere in her past she earned the nickname “Sugar,” and it was so befitting her sweet personality.
Unfortunately, I also remember how thin Aunt Sugar’s hair was and how she, like most, just came to terms with it, saying things like, “Well, do the best you can with what little hair I have, David,” or “When God was giving out hair, he missed me.” I can still see that crooked smile and the way she wrinkled her nose when she laughed.
Today she would be so happy because the hair fairies have been busy inventing magic potions to give women or men with thin hair something new to think about.
Of course, we have all heard about the supplements that help stimulate new hair growth or slow down the thinning process, and that’s all fine and good. But until now, those with thin hair have had to take a pill or use a treatment system of spritz, rub, wait and rinse while staring at their scalp through thin hair.
Well, I’m a big advocate for all things that help, and here is the thick and the thin of it, pun intended. For whatever reason the hair might be thin — medical, genetic, or stress — the result is the hair is no longer thick enough to provide a blanket that covers the scalp. We have gotten smarter over the years and discovered cosmetic ways to camouflage the problem, giving women with thin hair more confidence and less anxiety.
Even Joan Rivers addressed the issue with her recent collection of shadows for the hair. If we can paint our faces, why can’t we dab a little “makeup” onto our side part in a shade matching our hair color? Genius. Now we have a variety of cosmetic miracles that help create the illusion of thick, voluminous hair without the scare of needles or invasive procedures.
It’s a rite of passage almost for a man to begin losing his hair. My hairline is thinner than my waistline these days, but for women, even more than men, it tends to be a matter of self-esteem and confidence. I now have an answer for thin hair that’s immediate, and your stylist should also be aware of the modern, innovative solutions available.
If you love your thin hair, I say more power to you. Fly your fabulous flag high, but for those who are in any way unhappy or insecure about thin hair, talk to your stylist about the tricks that can give you a “fuller” life.
