Santa is busy this holiday packing up the sleigh with bags of toys and gifts for all those on the “Nice” list. Sometimes I wonder how the jolly ole fellow gets it all done in the nick of time.
Well, he has all of his little elves, Mrs. Claus, and even Rudolph to help him pull off Christmas without a hitch, so I thought I would round up a few beauty elves of my own for some tips on adding sparkle to the holiday face. Sit up, pay attention, and listen to the pros from some of your favorite brands.
According to Jessica Long, business manager for Estee Lauder: “I love our illuminator. My favorite holiday trick is using two colors of foundation, one to match the skin tone and the other darker tone brushed onto the sides of the face in the signature Estee Lauder “E” shape. The darker shade goes underneath the cheekbones, while the illuminator sits high and glamorously on the apples of the cheeks for a beautiful glow.”
Kay Honeycutt, counter manager for Lancome, offers this advice: “We have an Absolue powder which is luminous, radiant and feels like silk on the face. It makes the face glow! My favorite holiday red lipstick is Caprice Absolue Radiant moisturizing lipstick. With polish to match, it’s perfect for the season. For a limited time only, our Swarovski compacts with five stunning shades for the eyes will add so much sparkle, just in time for Santa.”
Clinique Beauty consultant Vicki Dorough says: “My secret for a face that sparkles is not really a well-kept one if you know me. The skin should be properly exfoliated and moisturized for a glow regardless of the season, but for an added touch of radiance, remember less is more with a sheer, lightweight and hydrating foundation that creates a glow as if a light switch was turned on inside.”
Finally, Bethany Lasseter, free-lance makeup artist for Chanel, responds: “One of the coolest things to do for the holiday season is to add some gold, because golds are huge right now. Our holiday collection is full of sparkling gold eye shadow and liquid eye liner. Also, the new velvet matte lipsticks with extra moisture in varying shades of ruby reds are totally in and just in time for Christmas. My favorite pick is La Sensuelle Rouge Allure Velvet.”
So, thanks to all of our experts for tips on making faces sparkle under the mistletoe, and remember when shopping for that special lady (especially if it’s yourself), to indulge in your favorite brands. Santa does!
