“Clean Sweep Columbus, a Great American Clean-up Event” is searching for volunteers to help clean up the Friendly City. Clean Sweep will kick off Saturday, April 16, at 9 a.m. at the Magnolia Bowl in downtown Columbus.
LINK”d Young Professionals and Keep Columbus/Lowndes Beautiful are teaming up with area businesses and organizations for this community-wide clean-up. Several companies and city leaders have already volunteered their time and equipment, but more is needed for a Clean Sweep.
Volunteers from throughout the community are encouraged to sign-up as soon as possible so the Clean Sweep Team can begin mapping routes for volunteers. For safety purposes, all youth groups must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.
Material donations
Donations in the form of paint, paint brushes, rollers, paint trays, flowers, mulch, plastic bed liner, timber or stones to line beds, gloves, rakes, shovels, trash bags and water are being sought.
As volunteers walk through neighborhoods picking up litter, leaves, and limbs, the goal is to make Columbus shine. Teams collected more than 1,000 pounds of waste and debris in 2010.
This year, focus will be Magnolia Bowl revitalization, mulching and planting flower beds in community parks, and pinpointing areas to pick up litter, including at schools and in neighborhoods.
Appliance pick up
From April 11-15, the City of Columbus will offer free appliance and white goods pick-up. Call 662-328-4481 to schedule a driver to visit your home before all time slots are filled. All items must be placed at the street for pick up.
