Mississippi University for Women”s Department of Music and Theatre will present its 2010 Fall Choral Concert Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 602 Main St., in Columbus.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature the MUW Chorale and MUW University Chorus, women”s ensembles, as well as the MUW Chamber Choir and Encore, mixed ensembles. Music presented will range from renaissance to jazz.
The Chorale will present selections from Pergolesi”s “Stabat Mater,” featuring solos and a duet by soprano Jessica Horton and mezzo soprano DeNondrea Forrest. Selections by Vittoria and Tallis will be performed by the Chamber Singers. Dr. Cherry Dunn will direct the University Chorus in three selections. The MUW Singers will be joined by the Columbus Choral Society in “Elijah Rock” by Moses Hogan to conclude the concert.
James Allen, Nancy Kennedy and Rachel Delk and Sue Burkhalter will accompany the choirs.
MUW”s music department welcomes Doug Browning as interim director of choral activities. Browning currently serves as director of music at First United Methodist Church, where he has been for two years. He directed choirs at Murrah High School for five years and at Holmes Community College for four years before moving to Columbus.
