The public is invited to a piano and violin senior recital by 17-year-old Rachel Mast on Sunday, May 31, at 2:30 p.m. in Carrier Chapel on the campus of Mississippi University for Women.
Mast, a home-educated graduate, is a piano student of Frankie Harpole, of Columbus, and a violin pupil of Salvatore Guerra, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The daughter of Glenn and Maggie Mast, of Crawford, has studied piano for 11 years with Harpole, and, in the past two years, has begun teaching piano herself. She has been selected for State Special Recognition Recitals for eight years and has won two gold medals, several alternates, a highest composite score award and the eight-year achievement award. Mast has also received six years of superior ratings at National Federation Festival.
In addition to her piano studies, Mast has studied violin with Guerra for eight years. As a violinist, she has received superiors at the National Federation Festival three years and has been selected for Mississippi All-State Orchestra four years. She is concertmistress of the Columbus Suzuki Strings youth orchestra and also plays in the advanced ensemble.
Mast received a full scholarship to the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra”s Premier Orchestra Institute last summer.
The recital will feature piano pieces from various periods of music and violin compositions including Antonio Vivaldi”s “Winter,” from his “Four Seasons” concertos. Pianist Lisa Harpole Kropp, of Columbus, will accompany Mast”s violin presentation.
