Fresh silhouettes and pretty prints will be part of the spring landscape soon as the Columbus Anniversary Chapter of the American Business Women”s Association presents its 15th annual style show.
The local chapter, chartered in 1989, is part of the national organization and celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The style show, co-chaired by Patti Johnson and Lu Laird, will be held at Hogarth Dining Center on the campus of Mississippi University for Women on Wednesday, April 1, from noon until 1 p.m.
“We have 12 models who will be showing spring fashions from Belk”s” said Johnson, noting that several ABWA members will be on the runway. “We do this every year to raise money for scholarships for women who are seeking education to enter or return to the work force.”
Since the organization began holding the annual style show, it has raised more than $15,000 for local scholarships.
Johnson praised the collaborative work by ABWA members.
“Everybody is really good about coming together and making it happen. We have a lot of door prizes and generous businesses who have sponsored tables.”
Sponsorships for tables seating eight people are still available at a cost of $144.
The menu, provided by MUW, will be gourmet chunky chicken salad on croissants, fresh fruit in yogurt, pasta salad and praline pie, Laird said.
“This will be a fun day of beautiful fashions, wonderful door prizes and great fellowship,” Johnson added.
The ABWA mission is to “bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking, support and national recognition.” The Columbus chapter meets the third Wednesday of each month and invites interested women to make a difference in the community.
It is, Johnson remarked, a prime networking opportunity for women, whether they are currently working or retired.
Tickets for the style show are $18, available from any ABWA member, or by contacting Johnson at 662-574-9599 or Laird at 662-327-0159.
