Starkville Christian School Ready for BEST Competition
October 25, 2009
Dale Jordan
The CougarBots is the school's robotics team that is preparing for the MSU Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) statewide competition beginning Oct. 30 at the McCarthy Gymnasium on the MSU campus. The contest this year, "High Octane", requires teams to navigate a course, manipulate or pick up objects and store "chemical compounds" to create iso-octane, an alternative form of fuel.
There are a dozen or more teams competing in the competition, including the Starkville Christian Home Educators team.
The CougarBots have been preparing for the competition over the last five weeks, and will be making a presentation to the SCS student body Tuesday morning in preparation for the weekend competition. They will be judged on several levels by the BEST judges, including an APA style notebook, oral presentation, spirit and sportsmanship, display, and of course, the robot competition itself.
This is the first competition for the SCS CougarBots, and they are looking forward to the challenge.
