MACON — A seven-point first-quarter deficit proved to be child’s play for the Noxubee County High School girls basketball team. Those kind of leads evaporate quickly when you can press teams like the Lady Tigerettes. It also helps to have propulsion from guards Jeraldine Campbell and Shanteria Tate.

Kierra Jones was in a zone. Shooters know the place. When you’re there, your shooting stroke is perfect, the ball has the ideal rotation, and every shot you take is nothing but net. The Starkville High School girls basketball standout wasn’t quite in that zone, although she did have two productive evenings last week at the Class 5A-Division 2 tournament at South Panola High School.

Pickens County boys basketball in unusual situation

The Pickens County High School boys basketball team will encounter a peculiar predicament at 7 p.m. Friday when it plays at R.C. Hatch in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 2A Central Sub-Regional Tournament. It will be the first time in 15 years that the Pickens County Tornadoes will have to travel for a sub-regional tournament game.

CALEDONIA — Tyler Aldridge is honest when he looks back at his athletic career. He always had confidence in whatever sport he played — football, soccer, or baseball — but he feels something was missing. “When I was a freshman and a sophomore, I broke down mentally,” Aldridge said. “The physical part was always there, but I wasn’t thinking.
