LINEVILLE, Ala. — In many football games, what happens after halftime makes the difference in the outcome.
For the Sulligent (Ala.) Blue Devils, the second-half surge happened for homestanding Lineville on Friday night. The Aggies scored 27 unanswered points to open the second half for a 43-23 third-round victory in the Alabama High School Athletic Association”s Class 2A playoffs.
Sulligent ended its season with a 10-3 record.
After Curtis Miles kicked a 23-yard field goal to open the scoring for Lineville, Sulligent took the lead 7-3 when Wesley Parson scored from 7 yards out. Logan Barnes booted the PAT.
In the second quarter, Lineville scored on a 41-yard pass from Demetrius Lindsey to LaCharles Ward to take a 9-3 halftime lead. The run for the extra points failed.
Travis Ackles scored from 1 yard in the third quarter to put Lineville ahead 16-7. Then Lindsey connected with Ward again for a 31-yard touchdown, followed by Emanual Hunter”s 13- and 6-yard scoring runs.
Ishmael Riggins — who led Sulligent in rushing with 25 carries for 156 yards scored in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard run. Mason Franklin converted the points-after with a run.
Lineville scored again on a 58-yard scamper by Miles. The final points came from Sulligent when Parson scored on a 6-yard run. John Potmesil ran over for the points-after attempt.
Parson added 56 yards on 10 carries for Sulligent, while Potmesil completed 11-of-20 passes for 185 yards.
