The Starkville High School fotball team improved its position for a playoff spot out of Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A, Region 1 on Friday night with a 49-19 victory against Horn Lake.
The win, the fourth in a row for the Yellow Jackets (5-2, 2-0 region), allows them to stay with South Panola, which beat Columbus 44-0, as the only unbeaten teams in the region.
Tupelo defeated Southaven on Friday night.
Starkville will get a chance to improve its standing even more next week when it plays host to Southaven.
In Class 5A, West Point held off Oxford 22-20, while New Hope blanked Lake Cormorant 21-0.
