Local swimmers, for the first time ever, will have the opportunity to join the Shockwave Aquatics summer league program and the seventh-annual strokes clinic.
The program serves as a transitional step from traditional swim lessons to the year-round Shockwave program with the goal to develop the stroke, skills and confidence of all participants.
Swimmers in these programs will have the opportunity to work with Shockwave and Mississippi All-Star coach Robert P. Gonzalez and age-group coach and former Division-1 All-American swimmer Mark Garrigues over the course of the program.
Classes will take place at the Joe Frank Sanderson Center on the campus of Mississippi State University with the summer league groups going from June 2-July 21 meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The stroke clinic will be featured in a two-week program from June 7-17 and June 21-July 2.
The purpose of the summer league program is to expose young athletes to competitive swimming for the first time. The focus of the class is to develop the swimming abilities across all four stroke disciplines. Swimmers in this group will be eligible to attend competitions at the conclusion of the season.
The stroke clinic features a fantastic student-teacher ratio and works on the student”s abilities for developing both freestyle and backstroke. An instructor will be in the water at all times for this program.
Swimmers who do well and want to take the next jump into competitive swimming will be encouraged to join the Shockwave Aquatics year-round program. The team, which has won 15 state championships, features a roster of over 60 swimmers ranging from ages 6-16 with a large diversity of quality and skill.
For registration information or questions regarding either the summer league or stroke clinics, please contact Shockwave coach Robert P. Gonzalez at [email protected].
