STARKVILLE — A day after announcing a new defensive coordinator, Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen needs to find another new defensive coach.
A MSU team spokesperson confirmed Thursday that safeties coach Maurice Linguist will join the Minnesota coaching staff as the secondary coach under new coach P.J. Fleck. Minnesota hasn’t officially announced the hiring of Linguist.
Linguist coached one season in Starkville after taking over last spring. He replaced Tony Hughes, who was named the Jackson State coach.
MSU cornerback Cedric Jiles tweeted, “Great coach to play for! & Good luck too,” at Linguist.
On Wednesday, Mullen announced the hiring of former Louisville coach Todd Grantham as the new defensive coordinator. Former MSU defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon took Grantham’s position at Louisville.
Mullen still has to hire a quarterbacks coach. Brian Johnson left MSU last month to become the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Houston under new coach Major Applewhite.
