ALICEVILLE, Ala. — The Aliceville High School football team picked up in the postseason Friday night where the regular season left off.
In the opening round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A playoffs, Aliceville defeated Luverne 47-14.
Now owners of a 10-game winning streak, Aliceville (11-1) will play host to Leroy (8-3) in the second round Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets built a 24-0 halftime lead and finished with 453 yards and 19 first downs on 52 plays.
Jamar Richardson ran five times for 166 yards and a touchdown. Javon Phillips rushed four times for 73 yards and two scores. Nicquavious Craig had four rushes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Deonte Taylor ran eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown. Taylor also had four two-point conversion runs.
Rodney Jones added a 43-yard interception return for touchdown. Albert Wells had 13 tackles, while Malik Bonner had eight.
n West End 41, Lamar County 7: At Vernon, Alabama, the AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 champions were upset in the first round of the playoffs by the No. 4 seed from Region 7.
Ric Rogers’ 12-yard run was the only score for Lamar County (6-5).
West End (6-5) will play host to Lanett (9-2) in the second round.
n Tanner 42, Sulligent 14: At Tanner, Alabama, the AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 fourth-seeded Blue Devils lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Coach Daniel Merchant’s second Sulligent squad finishes at 6-5.
Tyreke Metcalfe scored on a 10-yard run, and Marco Mastin added a 15-yard scoring run for Sulligent.
Region 7 champion Tanner (8-2) will play host to Sand Rock (9-2) in the second round.
n Spring Garden 40, South Lamar 14: At Spring Garden, Alabama, the AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 third-seeded Stallions also saw their season end at 6-5.
For South Lamar, Buster Griffin had 79 yards rushing, including an 8-yard touchdown run. Jarrett Bryant had a 27-yard fumble return for South Lamar.
Quintin Downey ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns, while Ben Ivy ran for 139 yards and another score for Spring Garden.
Spring Garden (10-1) will play host to Addison (11-0) in the second round.
n Pickens County 55, Coosa Christian 7: At Reform, Alabama, the AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 champions rolled in their playoff opener.
Pickens County (8-3) will play Friday night at Sumiton Christian (9-2) in the second round.
