ALICEVILLE, Ala. — The Aliceville High School football team moved to 2-0 in Alabama High School Activities Association (AHSAA) Class 2A, Region 4 play with a 58-16 home victory against Marion on Friday night.
Aliceville built a 50-0 lead after one quarter. DeMontez Hinton set an AHSAA record by rushing for six two-point conversions in the win. Hinton also had a 22-yard touchdown run.
Zavien Williams scored on runs of 6 and 9 yards. Jamar Richardson added a 57-yard touchdown run, while Nicquavious Craig did the same from 59 yards. Xavier Phillips caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Santiago Taylor. Payvious Rice capped the scoring with a 4-yard run.
Aliceville (2-2, 2-0 region) will try to remain undefeated at the midway mark of its region schedule when it travels to Verbena (2-2, 2-0) on Friday night.
n Lamar County 24, Mars Hill Bible 18: At Florence, Alabama, the Bulldogs won their second-straight thriller to start 2-0 in AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 play.
Sophomore Ric Rogers threw two touchdowns to spark a rally from a 12-3 halftime deficit. Rogers hit Mark Duncan from 21 yards and Andrew Norton from 14 yards. Rogers also had a rushing touchdown on a draw play.
Lamar County (2-2, 2-0) will play host to Hatton (1-3, 0-1) on Friday night in its third region game of the season.
n Elsewhere in this region, Sulligent (1-2, 0-1) had an open date. It will return to AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 play Friday night with a home game against Phil Campbell (1-3, 0-2).
n Pickens County 49, Marion County 6: At Guin, Alabama, the Tornadoes continue to blow through the early part of their schedule with another rout for a 2-0 start in AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 play.
Pickens County has won its first three games by a combined margin of 160-6.
Caleb Bonner had three rushing touchdowns to lead the Tornadoes. Javian Prude also added two scores.
Pickens County (3-0, 2-0) will play Friday night at Oakman (3-0, 2-0) in a battle for the region lead.
n South Lamar 22, Berry 8: At Berry, Alabama, the Stallions snapped a two-game losing streak to earn their first win in Class 1A, Region 5 play.
South Lamar erased an 8-7 halftime deficit by scoring two touchdowns in the second half. The Stallions held the Wildcats out of the end zone, as the lone Berry (3-1, 1-1) score came on a 60-yard interception return by Demarcus Johnson. After the interception return for a touchdown, a two-point conversion gave Berry an 8-7 lead.
South Lamar scored first early in the second quarter on 2-yard run by Garrett Trull. Trull also scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter. A 2-yard touchdown run and follow-up conversion by Kenneth Vice gave the Stallions the lead for good midway through the third quarter. A 40-yard pass reception by Jarrett Bryant set up that score.
Bryant added a 35-yard punt return to set up a short field for the insurance score.
South Lamar (2-2, 1-1) will resume region play Friday night at Holy Spirit Catholic (2-1, 1-1).
n Escambia Academy 52, Pickens Academy 6: At Atmore, Alabama, the Pirates had a tough time in their Alabama Independent School Association Class AA, Region 2 opener.
The Pirates were done in by seven turnovers — five interceptions and two lost fumbles.
Riley Harcrow had 57 rushing yards on nine carries. He also had 13 tackles to lead the defense. Will Jones had 17 carries for 49 yards. John Bradley Seymer added 11 tackles for the Pirates.
Pickens Academy (2-1, 0-1) will play host to Autauga Academy on Friday night.
