JACKSON — The Columbus Christian Academy boys track and field team won the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AA State title on Saturday at Jackson Prep.
The title is the school’s first in track and field, and its third championship this season. The school’s boys basketball team and the boys cross country teams won the Class AA State titles. Coach Greg Watkins believes the boys cross country championship in 2015 was the school’s first MAIS state title in school history.

n Mattox leads Starkville High girls: At Pearl, Starkville High School junior Kate Mattox won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters Friday at the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State meet at Pearl High.
Mattox won the 3,200 with a time of 11 minutes, 19.25 seconds. Her sister, Caroline, finished third (11:56.49). Carolina Mattox also finished fourth in the 800 (2:24.03).
The Starkville girls finished fourth with 57 points. Clinton won the team title with 131.5 points.
The Starkville High girls 4×800 relay team was third (10:09.65). The 4×400 girls relay team finished fourth (4:08). Ralesheia Gee won the girls long jump (19 feet). Aubreonna Mitchell was fourth in the event (17-0).
Also in the Class 6A State meet, Patton Little won the boys 1,600 (4:22.49). Lake Spradling took fourth (4:36.28). Little took third in the 800 (1:59.61), while Spradling finished seventh in the event (2:07.61). The boys 4×800 relay team finished seventh (8:34.45). Tavian Clark was fifth in the boys 300 hurdles (40.62).
The Starkville High boys finished ninth with 29 points. Pearl won the meet with 79 points.
For Columbus, Michael McCloud won the boys 400 (48.9). The Columbus High boys 4×200 relay team finished fifth (1:30.31). Kenneth Martin was sixth in the boys triple jump (43-2 ¾). The Columbus High girls 4×100 relay team took second (49.23). Kennedi Stephens was eighth in the girls shot put (30-3).
In the Class 4A State meet, which also was Friday, the Noxubee County High girls 4×800 relay team finished seventh (12:11.1). The 4×100 girls relay team finished sixth (52.37). The 4×400 girls relay team placed fifth (4:25.23).
The Noxubee County High boys 4×400 relay team finished first (3:34.73, edging McComb (3:34.79). Jeffery Simmons won the boys shot put (49-5) and finished second in the javelin (152-4). Qendarrion Barnett won the javelin (156-7). Keith Sanders finished sixth in the boys 300 hurdles (42.54). Jaylon Mason finished sixth in the 200 (22.95). Deveon Ball was fifth in the boys triple jump (42-4 ¾).
The Noxubee County High boys were fourth with 48 points. Senatobia won the meet with 108 points.
For Caledonia, Alexis Pace finished seventh in the girls 3,200 (13:56.8), Matt Wilson placed fourth in the boys 1,600 (4:22.49).
