CALEDONIA — Donquarius Mallard scored a team-high 25 points Thursday night to lead the Noxubee County boys basketball team to an 80-77 victory against Louisville in the MHSAA Class 4A, Region 4, District 4 tournament at Caledonia High School.
The Tigers built a 44-28 halftime lead, survived a 29-16 third quarter by Louisville, and then held on in the fourth quarter to advance to the district title game at 8:30 tonight against Houston.
The winner between Noxubee County and Houston will host a first-round Class 4A North State playoff game next week.
Vincent Sanders scored 19 points, Myquell Grace scored 12, Terrence Barron had eight, and Earnest Hunter added seven for Noxubee County (15-10).
n Houston 62, Noxubee County 55 (G): At Caledonia, Aja Forte scored 13 points, but her effort wasn”t enough as the Tigerettes suffered a loss to Houston in the MHSAA Class 4A, Region 4, District 4 tournament.
Ty-niesa Mickens had 11 points, Ciera Chandler added 10, and Brianna Brooks and Jasmine Little had nine and eight points, respectively.
Noxubee County (15-11) will play Amory, which lost to Kosciusko 56-55, at 4 p.m. today in the consolation game.
n Aberdeen 69, South Pontotoc 54 (B):At Mooreville, Rashad Pargo scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lift the Bulldogs past South Pontotoc in the MHSAA Class 3A, Region 3, District 1 tournament.
Anthony McDonald (15 points) and Channing Ward (11 points, 11 rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs (15-11), who will plat Nettleton at 8:30 p.m. today for the district title.
n Aberdeen 68, Water Valley 42 (G): At Mooreville, the Lady Bulldogs set up a rematch against Nettleton tonight in the championship game of the MHSAA Class 3A, Region 3, District 1 tournament thanks to a convincing victory against Water Valley. The rematch will be at 7 p.m.
Jameika Hoskins scored a game-high 27 points, and Regina Barker added 11 for the Lady Bulldogs (22-2).
Aberdeen defeated Nettleton, which beat South Pontotoc 69-55, 60-39 on Feb. 2 at Aberdeen. Nettleton played without Camry Jones and Shawntina Collier in that game. Jones scored 32 points Thursday night.
n West Lowndes 76, East Webster 56 (B): At Bruce, Demetrius Malone scored a team-high 27 points to help the Panthers beat the Wolverines in the MHSAA Class 2A, Region 2, District 1 tournament.
Ledrick Patterson had 20 points for East Webster. which will play Bruce at 5:30 p.m. today in the consolation game.
West Lowndes will play Calhoun City at 8:30 tonight.
n Buce 80, West Lowndes 44 (G): At Bruce, the Lady Panthers will play in the consolation game of the MHSAA Class 2A, Region 2, District 1 tournament after losing to Bruce on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers will play Hatley in the consolation game at 4 p.m. today.
Tynesha Knott and Chadyilla Selvie scored 12 points each for West Lowndes.
n St. Jude 57, Pickens County 39 (G): At Montgomery, Ala., the Lady Tornadoes had their season come to an end with a loss to St. Jude in the AHSAA Class 2A Central Sub-Regional tournament.
Pickens County (14-8) was led by Maryauna Sterling with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals and Kelsey Stewart with 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.
Kasseeanna Ashbourne scored a game-high 29 points for St. Jude (21-4).
