LAFAYETTE, La. — Mother Nature continues to be the big winner in the NCAA tournament’s Lafayette Regional.
The elimination game between Mississippi State and Weber State was halted by rain Saturday night. MSU led 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when the delay started at 7:56 p.m.
That game will be completed at noon today.
The Bulldogs built the lead on a Caroline Seitz home run — her 15th of the year. Alexis Silkwood started in the circle for the Bulldogs. She had allowed three hits in four innings.
In the day’s opening game, Louisiana-Lafayette rallied for a 3-1 win against Baylor. ULL is the last undefeated team and would have to be beaten twice in the championship round.
The final game of Saturday’s slate was scheduled to match Baylor and the winner of the MSU-Weber State game. That game will be played 30 minutes after the MSU-Weber State game is completed.
MSU opened the tournament with an 8-4 loss to Baylor. In that game, Silkwood pitched five innings and took the loss. Seitz led the offense with a two-run home run and a double.
Today’s championship round hadn’t officially been rescheduled at press time.
