STARKVILLE — The search didn”t last a month, but it appears Starkville Academy has found its man to lead the football program.
Jeff Terrill, who has experience coaching on the junior college level, is expected to be introduced as the Volunteers” new coach at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Terrill is expected to replace Brian Sims, who resigned last month after two seasons at the school.
Starkville Academy Athletic Director Glenn Schmidt couldn”t comment on Terrill”s hiring because the contract hadn”t been finalized, but she said she was satisfied with the length and results of the search.
“When you find somebody who”s going to be a good fit, you act on it,” Schmidt said.
Terrill, who also wouldn”t comment with the contract pending, spent eight seasons as the coach at Itawamba Community College before retiring at the end of the season.
In 26 years as a coach, Terrill has worked as a defensive coordinator at East Mississippi C.C. and as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Hinds C.C. and as athletic director and head football coach at Kosciusko High School.
Terrill, a native of Macon, played for coach David Butler at Central Academy. Butler has worked as a coach at Starkville Academy in recent years.
