TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama men’s basketball team cruised to an 82-54 victory against Towson Tigers in its season opener Friday evening at Coleman Coliseum.
“I thought we played with great energy,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. “I was really pleased to see our guys come out and take the fight. I thought the energy was there from both ends of the court. The guys that came in I thought did a great job, the intensity was there I thought throughout the first and second half we would wear them out with our defense. I think style and play-wise we set the tone.”
With the win, Anthony Grant earned his 100th victory as coach of the Crimson Tide. He is the seventh coach in Alabama’s 101-year history to earn 100 victories at the school, and is the fifth fastest to reach the plateau.
Levi Randolph led Alabama with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Randolph also tied his career-high in assists and steals with five and four, respectively. He didn’t commit a turnover.
Senior guard Rodney Cooper scored 15 points, while sophomore forward Shannon Hale had 14. Freshman forward Riley Norris scored 10 points off of the bench in his first career game, and all 10 players that entered the game for the Crimson Tide scored.
Alabama will play host to Western Carolina at 8 p.m. Monday (SEC Network) in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at Coleman Coliseum.
