STARKVILLE — Mississippi State senior tailback Anthony Dixon skipped out to the practice field Tuesday afternoon and yelled out “let”s go.”
The question remains, will Dixon be allowed to go for the Bulldogs on Saturday?
It appears more and more that Dixon”s status will be a gametime decision for MSU football coach Dan Mullen.
After Dixon pled guilty to driving under the influence after his July arrest, Mullen has so far handled all of the punishment internally and said it will stay that way.
“Anthony has been working real hard in practice and is doing everything we”ve asked him to do,” Mullen said. “There are a lot of other things going on with it. Playing a game is not the only discipline involved. We”ve got a list of about 12 different things.”
Mullen sent the Bulldogs through a nearly three-hour practice Tuesday and plans to step up preparation for Saturday”s 2:30 p.m. (ESPNU) season opener against Jackson State.
“We”ll get a little bit of everything in (today),” Mullen said. “We”ll be preparing until 2:34 on Saturday. That”s when we”ll stop preparing for this game. We”ve got a lot of preparing still to do.”
Mullen said junior center J.C. Brignone (ankle) was back at practice and saw some time at guard so sophomore D.J. Looney could get some more snaps at center.
Freshman wide receiver Chad Bumphis (foot) appeared to be jogging at full speed and began the week at the top of the depth chart at the H-receiver position.
