Dan Olson considers Sherise Williams to be “a sleeper.”
The Mississippi State women’s basketball team hopes Williams lives up to that potential.
On Wednesday afternoon, Williams, a 6-foot-2 forward from St. Louis, signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at MSU. She is expected to join guard Jessy Ward, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Dominique Brooks, a 6-4 post player from Lansing, Ill., as members of the Lady Bulldogs’ latest signing class.
Ward and Brooks had given verbal commitments to attend MSU earlier this year. It couldn’t be verified at press time if Ward and/or Brooks had signed NLI’s on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
“She is an agile low-post player,” said Olson, the director of Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Report, a national recruiting service and website. “She has a long body frame and she can play in an up-tempo, fast-paced league like the SEC.”
Williams said she chose MSU over the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Memphis, Alabama, and DePaul.
“It was a relief,” Williams said. “I just wanted to sign so I could play basketball and get ready for my high school season. I didn’t want to be stressed out.”
