Friday night’s weather was perfect for a playoff game.
Unfortunately, the evening marked the 2011 finale for the Victory Christian football team.
In its fourth playoff appearance in as many years, Victory Christian lost to North River Christian 28-16 Friday night in the first round of the Christian Football Association playoffs.
“North River played a very good game,” Victory Christian coach Chris Hamm said. “They deserved to win this game. I’m very proud of the season this team has had.”
With the win, North River earns a chance to play Tabernacle Christian, of Birmingham, Ala., next Friday in Cottondale, Ala., for the CFA title.
After a scoreless first quarter, North River scored first on a 50-yard pass and added the two-point conversion. It didn’t take long for Victory to retaliate, as freshman quarterback Anthony Sharp scored on a 3-yard run and followed with the two-point conversion to help the Eagles tie the game at 8 at halftime.
Victory Christian scored again early in the third quarter, but North River Christian scored three more times to move on.
Nick Hairston had a sack and seven tackles, Paul Blair had eight tackles as did sophomore Brandon Shaw. Senior Jay Pace and junior Roy Boden had six tackles.
Sharp was 6 of 30 for 84 yards and three interceptions. Boden caught a pass from Sharp for 18 yards. Freshman Cody Bolton caught two passes for 31 yards. Kaleb Holiness had one catch for 15 yards.
