RIDGELAND — The Caledonia High School volleyball team went 3-1 and tied for third in the two-day Set It Off Challenge that wrapped up Saturday.
On Friday, Caledonia beat Pearl and Senatobia. On Saturday, Caledonia lost to Corinth 26-24, 27-25 and defeated Ackerman 22-25, 25-17, 16-14.
Against Pearl, Sarah Freeman had four kills and two blocks, Cara Hopper had one kill and four aces, Elisha Collins had six kills and one block, Morgan Smith had two aces and 18 assists, Ashley Langford had one kill and two aces, and Stevi Carter had three kills.
Against Ackerman, Freeman had three kills and two aces, Collins had seven kills and an ace, Smith had one ace, a kill, and 15 assists, Langford had three kills and three aces, and Carter had two kills and an ace.
Against Senatobia, Freeman had two kills, an ace, and a block, Hopper had one kill, Collins had three kills and a block, Smith had two aces and 11 assists, Langford had three kills, and Carter had two kills and an ace.
Against Corinth, Freeman had seven kills and an ace, Collins had two kills, Smith had two kills, an ace, and 12 assists, Langford had a kill, and Carter had a kill and an ace.
Brooks also said Elisabeth Shepherd, Taylor Hayes, and Clara Wallace also played key supporting roles.
Caledonia will play Lafayette and Tupelo on Tuesday at Tupelo.

n Oak Hill Academy goes 2-2 at Starkville Academy tournament: At Starkville, The Lady Raiders (5-3) won their first two games then fell victim to the heat Saturday at the double-elimination tournament.
Oak Hill Academy beat Central Academy 11-0 in the first game and then edged East Rankin 3-1. But coach Marion Bratton said four players fell victim to the heat in his team”s third game of the day, a 10-1 loss to Leake Academy. He said it couldn”t recover in time to stay alive, losing to Pillow Academy 5-2.
“I am very, very pleased,” Bratton said. “We got better today.”
Bratton was most pleased with his team”s victory against East Rankin. The game started at 11:50 a.m. and was a pitchers” duel won by Mamie Allen. The junior right-hander allowed only two hits. She walked two and struck out three. Bratton said his team used a small-ball approach, including a bunt with the bases loaded, to earn the victory.
Maegen Ellis and Anna Lummus had the only hits for the Lady Raiders.
In the first game of the day, Allen struck out eight and walked one in a no-hitter. Lauren Hitt had two hits, while Allen, Lummus, Maegen Ellis, Tori Ellis, Meg McBrayer, Hunter Coleman, and Jessi Cole each had hits.
But Bratton said Leake Academy was too good in his team”s third game of the day. Lummus had a single and Allen (4-2), who lasted only five batters, had a double.
Maegen Ellis (1-1) took the loss in the final game. She allowed six hits and two earned runs. Allen had two singles, while Lummus, Hitt, and Coleman added hits.
