The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will compete this weekend at the Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus.
The event, which is sponsored by the Columbus/Lowndes County Convention and Visitors Bureau, will taped by Lucas Oil Studios for a SPEED Channel broadcast.
There will be a practice session from 7-10 p.m. Thursday. At 8 p.m. Friday, the series will take to the track for Red Buck Cigar Time Trials and Heat Races.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, there will be a pre-race ApplianceZone.com autograph session for series drivers followed by racing action with the B-Mains and $20,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start main event.
Jimmy Owens, of Newport, Tenn., will lead the series this weekend. He has a 70-point lead against Scott Bloomquist, the two-time series champion, who cut 50 points off of Owens” points lead while sweeping both events last weekend in Ohio. Bloomquist has a series-leading seven wins in 2011.
Don O”Neal, of Martinsville, Ind., is third in the championship points standings followed by Steve Francis and Jared Landers.
Several other national and regional drivers are expected to compete including, Billy Moyer, Chris Wall, Wendell Wallace, Jimmy Mars, David Breazeale, of Four Corners, and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, of Northport, Ala.
On Monday, Wall won the PRO Dirt Car Series-sanctioned event at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
The race was originally slated for Sunday night, but rain during qualifying forced it to be postponed. Thirty-seven of the original entrants couldn”t return, but a strong field of 23 cars competed in the rescheduled race.
Jason Brock, of Sulligent, Ala., earned the pole for the feature event after setting quick time in Southern Belle Pole Qualifying.
Eric Cooley won the RacingJunk.com qualifier.
David Breazeale claimed the Three Crown Nationals title with Chad Thrash, Rodney Wing, Brian Rickman, and Rick Rickman rounding out the top five in the final standings.
