STARKVILLE — Shaquille Hill and Nick Brooks are among four Starkville High School baseball players who have been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
The suspensions were confirmed Monday by Starkville High baseball coach Danny Carlisle, who declined to comment on the reasons Hill, Brooks, Andrew Armburst, and Jalen Campbell were suspended.
Carlisle also declined to specify when the players would return or what they would have to do get back on the field.
None of the players traveled last week to Florida for the team”s annual spring break road swing.
The Yellow Jackets (3-3) will open district play against Columbus High (6-4) at 6 p.m. today. Starkville will be without its top two pitchers, Brooks, a junior, and Hill, a senior.
Brooks, who is batting .333, is a three-year starter and can play third base when he”s not pitching. Hill also plays outfield and has a 2.33 ERA.
“It”s disappointing because they”ve each been in the program since seventh grade,” Carlisle said Monday of Brooks and Hill. “You hope something like this will lift the other guys up, but we”ll see. Those are our top two guys (on the mound), but you move on and play the next game.”
