Austin Braddock and M.J. Hamrick had home runs, and Parker Dunaway threw four strong innings Saturday to lead the Heritage Academy baseball team to a 15-2 victory against Oak Hill Academy in Columbus.
The game was stopped after four innings due to the 12-run rule.
Braddock also had two doubles and four RBIs, while Hamrick had three hits and two RBIs to help the Patriots improve to 12-0.
“It has been a fun ride to this point,” Heritage Academy coach Bruce Branch said. “There is a lot of excitement around the ballfield. There are people coming out to the field I”ve never seen. Obviously word is traveling about Heritage Academy.”
Dunaway allowed just a bloop single in his first start of the season. He also had two hits and three RBIs.
James Clark had a double and an RBI, Garrett Hall and Matthew LeBrun had a single and an RBI, and Tyler Marchak had a double and two RBIs.
Heritage Academy will play a 6 p.m. Monday at Pickens Academy (Ala.). It will travel to Washington School on Tuesday.
“My biggest thing is 11-0 is great and 12-0 is great, but right now it is just a number,” Branch said. “Our ultimate goal is to win a championship. We don”t want to get overconfident. We want to keep coming out with a goal to get better, and I think we”re doing that right now.”
Adam Tumey took the loss in his first outing in three weeks for Oak Hill Academy (4-4), which beat Lamar School 15-5 and Immanuel Christian 19-0 on Friday.
Oak Hill Academy will play Tuesday at Manchester Academy.
n Hamilton 3, New Hope 2: At Hamilton, Lee Sanders scattered seven hits in a complete-game effort to help the Lions (4-2) beat the Trojans (9-2).
Sanders allowed only one earned run, while striking out five and walking four.
Parker Rye doubled home Graham Pritchett, who singled, and Kyle Dahlem”s sacrifice fly scored Rye in the bottom of the first for Hamilton, which defeated Amory 14-4 on Friday at the Itawamba Community College tournament in Fulton.
In the fourth, Dahlem doubled and scored on a double by Cojuante McMillian.
Rye was the only Hamilton player with multiple hits. Chase Reeves added a double, while Austin Lewis also had a hit for Hamilton.
New Hope scored once in the fifth as Taylor Stafford doubled and Peyton Lee singled. Stafford scored on a fielder”s choice by Dusty Dyson.
The Trojans tacked on another run in the seventh on a wild pitch.
Lee went six innings for New Hope, allowing only seven hits. He struck out six and walked two.
Stafford, Lee, and Landon Boyd each had two hits for New Hope.
On Friday, Hamilton scored seven runs in the bottom of the first en route to its five-inning win against Amory.
Rye was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Reeves had a home run and two RBIs, Austin Welch was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Dahlem was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and three RBIs, and Lewis had a hit and two RBIs.
Brandon Fikes (1-0) earned the win, allowing seven hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out three in four innings. Reeves pitched the fifth, allowing one hit and striking out three.
n Columbus wins two: At Columbus, Christian Dale singled, stole second and third base, and scored on Jimmy Cockrell”s single to right-center field to help Columbus beat Ingomar 10-9 on Saturday.
On Thursday, Columbus defeated Greenville-Weston 6-3.
On Saturday, Nick Durrah came on in relief of starter Trace Lee to get the victory to help Columbus improve to 6-4.
Ingomar had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh, but Durrah (2-1) induced a flyball that Glen Robinson caught in foul territory to end the threat.
Dale was 4-for-5 with a triple and four runs scored, Durrah was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Chris McCullough was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Columbus got on the scoreboard in the third thanks to back-to-back singles by Dale and Aaron Cooks. After Durrah walked, McCullough doubled home two runs. Durrah scored on a passed ball to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Ingomar fought back with 3 runs off Lee in the 4th.
Columbus answered Ingomar”s three runs in the top of the fourth with three runs in the bottom half on a RBI single by Dale and a two-run single by Durrah.
Ingomar took a three-run lead in the sixth after scoring three runs off Durrah. Columbus tied the game in the bottom half of the inning after a leadoff triple by Dale and a RBI double by Durrah. Durrah and Cockrell scored to tie the game at 9-9 in the sixth.
On Thursday, Dale (2-1) struck out 16 and allowed three unearned runs.
Durrah led the way with a double, triple, and an RBI, while McCullough and Cooks had RBI singles.
Columbus will play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Starkville.
Softball
n New Hope wins four: At Clarkdale, The Lady Trojans (11-1) allowed just two runs in winning four games at the Clarkdale tournament.
New Hope defeated Brandon 7-1, South Panola 2-0, Lewisburg 7-1, and Poplarville 1-0.
Against Brandon, Lauren Holifield got the victory and was 2-for-4, including a two-run home run. Anna Holley was 2-for-4 with a sacrifice, D.J. Sanders was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBIs, Jordan Johnson was 3-for-3, and Anna McCrary and Brandi Brantley each had hits.
Sanders eared the victory against South Panola. Holifield, Holley, Kasey Stanfield, Sanders, and Kaitlin Bradley had hits.
Holifield went 2-for-4 with a double to support her cause against Lewisburg. Holley was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice, Sanders was 1-for-4, Madison Thrasher had a double, Johnson had two hits, including a double, and Bradley, McCrary, and Brooke Braddock also had hits.
Sanders had the only RBI in the victory against Poplarville. Bradley had two hits, while Holifield, Holley (sacrifice), and Brantley also had hits.
New Hope will play host to Tupelo at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. It will play at Tuscaloosa Academy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
