The Heritage Academy baseball team defeated River Oaks (La.) 14-4 and Copiah Academy 6-0 on Thursday to win the Smith-Wills tournament.
“It was a really good tournament for us,” Heritage Academy coach Bruce Branch said. “The competition is pretty good, and it was a really good trip for our boys. I am really, really proud of them. I told them this is just the beginning.”
In the first game, Austin Braddock earned the victory for the Patriots (11-0). He allowed a run in the first and three more in the fifth before it was stopped due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Parker Dunaway had three hits, Braddock had two hits, including a double and a triple. Clark Atkins also had a triple.
In the second game, M.J. Hamrick went all seven innings in his first outing. Tyler Farnham had two hits (double), while Matt Sykes had a double and Garrett Hall and Dunaway had hits.
Heritage Academy will play host to Oak Hill Academy at 11 a.m. Saturday.
