Dispatch staffers win 12 MPA awards

The Dispatch scooped 12 advertising awards, including two first place finishes, in the Mississippi Press Association's 2018 Better Newspaper Contest. 

 

MPA's award luncheon was held Saturday in Jackson. 

 

Graphic designer Jackie Taylor won first place in the small space advertisement category for "Chuck Norris." She placed second in the same category, as well as categories for black and white financial advertisement, classified display advertisement and health care magazine advertisement. She placed third in color institutional advertisement. 

 

Graphic designer Kelly Ervin placed first in the color institutional advertisement category for "ABC and Me." She also received second place in color retail advertisement and third in color service advertisement. 

 

Taylor and Advertising Director Beth Proffitt together won third place for their "Goats for Lawn Care?" series in the series of advertisements category. 

 

The Dispatch as a whole placed third in categories for newsprint editorial special section for its Progress magazine and newsprint advertising special section for "Back to Back." 

 

Dispatch publisher Peter Imes expressed pride for the paper's advertising department.  

 

"I'm proud of Jackie and Kelly's work," he said. "They do a fantastic job of consistently designing creative, effective ads." 

 

The Dispatch competed with other daily newspapers with circulation more than 9,000.
