The Starkville/MSU Symphony Association will host its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at The Storehouse at Christian World Missions, located at 1437 Fire Station Road in Starkville. Tickets for the 1920s-themed “Golden Follies Affair” are available for $60 in advance, or $70 at the door.
In celebration of the Starkville/MSU Symphony’s 50th season, the fundraiser commemorates the organization’s golden anniversary with a theme recalling the “golden days” of the 1920s and the iconic Ziegfeld Follies. The Gatsby-esque theme and decorations will set the scene for dining, dancing and a silent auction featuring local artwork, antiques, event experiences and gift certificates from area merchants.
Ticket holders will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, dinner and complimentary wine and beverages, along with entertainment and a dancing set provided by a five-piece band of local musicians including Doug Thomas, Jeffrey Rupp and Drew Dieckmann.
“Our team has been working hard to create a unique and fun experience for the community,” said Elizabeth Hawkins, Starkville/MSU Symphony Association event co-chair. “This event has become one of our primary fundraisers each year, and one of the ways we can continue to keep the Symphony concerts free to the Golden Triangle community.”
“The Affair has a slightly different theme each year, but we try to keep it in the 1920s spirit,” said Lynn Infanger, event co-chair. “It’s a fun era, and many of our guests choose to dress up in their best feathers and flapper attire.”
Van transportation from the parking areas to The Storehouse will be available for ticket holders. In addition, SMSA has partnered with MSU Catholic Campus Ministry and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church to provide childcare. Reservations are required for childcare, and parents may visit starkvillesymphony.org/tickets to reserve a spot. Childcare services are free, but donations to the campus ministry are appreciated.
Golden Follies tickets are available at The Book Mart in downtown Starkville, from any SMSA board member, or by visiting facebook.com/StarkvilleSymphony/events/. All but $15 of the ticket purchase price is tax deductible, and all proceeds go to helping the Symphony maintain its robust program of work.
