The former Lee High School property redevelopment looks to be underway with luxury lofts coming to Columbus this fall.
Ashleigh Rhett with Rhett Real Estate will be leasing the properties upon completion. Rhett said the former classrooms will be renovated into two bedroom-two bathroom lofts and one bedroom-one bathroom lofts, which would be approximately 1,000 and 900 square feet. She did not have a number for how many apartments there would be but said the development is in the early stages.
Construction is expected to be complete by fall of this year.
The 15 acres on Military Road were purchased from the Columbus Redevelopment Authority in June by Military-Lee LLC for $450,000. Scott Berry, a member of the LLC, is one of the owners and developers for the site. The Dispatch previously reported development plans for apartments, a grocery store, restaurants and retail space.
Also in Columbus, The Purple Elephant will open under new ownership in February. The Columbus gift shop initially announced the store’s closure with owner Marca Glenn’s retirement in December after more than 20 years of business in Columbus. Glenn expanded her gift shop to Starkville 13 years ago but closed the Starkville branch earlier this year.
This week, the store announced on Facebook the shop would open in February with a new owner with details coming soon. The Dispatch could not reach a representative by press time.
Beth Jeffers, owner of the Fitness Factor at 515 18th Ave. N. in Columbus, is celebrating 25 years of business in Columbus. The 24-hour gym offers exercise classes, yoga, pilates and more every day of the week. Over in Starkville, Midtown Outfitters, a Mississippi State University apparel and design shop on Russell Street, is moving. The shop opened in June and announced on Facebook it will move on Feb 1. to 327 Highway 12 W., next to Anytime Fitness. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Midtown Outfitters is replacing former tenant Revolution Consignment at the Middleton Court. Revolution Consignment announced its official move late last year. The consignment shop will open Jan. 12 at 204 E. Wood St. You can find awesome fashion trends Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
