The Mississippi University for Women Departments of Music and Theatre present “A Holiday Extravaganza — Winter Celebrations Around the World.” The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8 in The W’s Cromwell Theatre, located at 620 10th St. S. in Columbus.
Audiences will be taken on a journey through various eras and locations for a multicultural experience of the winter holidays. The show will feature performances by MUW theater and music students. Christmas carols from various cultures will be performed by music students, including the MUW Chamber Singers, the MUW Jazz Ensemble and the MUW Brass Quartet. In addition, MUW vocalists will perform excerpts from Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass.”
Theater performances will include poems and stories celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, including a scene from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and a reading of “The Night before Christmas” by The W theater student body.
“We are excited to once again be partnering with the music department on a holiday show,” said David Carter, associate professor and chair of The W Theatre Department. “It’s the perfect way to end the 2018 school year and usher in the winter holidays.”
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required for admittance and can be picked up at Cromwell or may be requested in advance. For more information, email [email protected] or call 662-329-7353.
