A Mantee man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a 2015 murder in Clay County.
After a two-day trial, a Clay County Circuit Court jury found Raheem Johnson, 23, guilty of first-degree murder Friday morning. Judge Jim Kitchens sentenced Johnson to life in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Johnson is accused of aiding and abetting in the shooting death of James White on May 15, 2015. Deputies with Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnson and several other suspects within days of the murder.
Johnson was indicted along with 23-year-old Casey Watkins and 29-year-old Roderick Johnson. Both Watkins and Roderick Johnson’s trials were set for last week, but were continued because of Raheem Johnson’s case, Colom said.
Raheem Johnson’s attorney, Kristen Wood Williams of West Point, did not return a call from The Dispatch by press time.
