Three people have been charged in relation to a shooting in New Hope over the weekend, one with attempted murder.
William Ariel Carr, 21, of 192 Center Road, was arrested Saturday and charged with attempt to commit an offense (attempted murder). Rispie Dawn Crawford, 36, of 112 Robinwood Circle, and Marialys Diane Crowe, 25, of 192 Center Street, were both charged with accessory after the fact.
Crawford was also charged with two counts and Crowe one count of possession of methamphetamine.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home on Center Street a little before 5 p.m. Saturday where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his face and covered in blood, according to police reports. The victim was unable to tell deputies what had happened due to trauma around his mouth. The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and later airlifted to a different area hospital, investigators previously told The Dispatch.
Though no one else was in the home when deputies arrived, the police report notes investigators found a glass pipe beside the bed in plain view, prompting deputies to call the narcotics task force.
A neighbor told investigators she had been sitting in her house when she heard “a loud boom like a shotgun” and according to police reports. She said she heard a woman scream “Why did you do that?” and then saw two people, a white man and a white woman, run down the road and flee the scene in a 2012 silver Hyundai being driven by another white woman.
Deputies later pulled over the vehicle at a gas station near the intersection of Idlewild and Airline roads and took the suspects into custody.
Carr and Crawford both claimed the shooting was self defense, according to police reports. Crawford told investigators Carr threw the barrel of the gun he used to shoot the victim into the woods near the house, but investigators were unable to find it.
LCSO previously reported investigators believe the shooting to be drug-related and not a random act of violence. Carr’s bond has been set at $150,000, while Crowe’s and Crawford’s bonds were set at $10,000 each. All three are still in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
