Jim Borsig announced today he is stepping down as Mississippi University for Women’s president.
Borsig will leave MUW in June, six and a half years after taking the position. He made his announcement at the 2018 faculty and staff convocation at Nissan Auditorium on MUW’s campus today.
“It’s been a great honor to serve this university as president,” Borsig said.
Borsig did not give a reason for leaving the university but said he is “refocusing” not retiring.
While initial reports suggested Borsig would be staying in Columbus, Borsig and his wife, Kate, have indicated they will move to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where they have owned a home since September. There he plans to work with the Columbus-based nonprofit Global Connections.
Borsig has been MUW’s president since 2012 after leaving the Institute of Higher Learning as associate commissioner for external relations and public policy. In February 2015, he announced he was leaving MUW to lead IHL’s Board of Trustees only to change his mind in April.
During Borsig’s tenure, he reintroduced athletics to the university and has been widely praised for his leadership at the school.
