Women seeking to develop improved job and life skills can receive free training through the Christian Women’s Job Corps-Golden Triangle (CWJC), which is currently accepting applications for its spring semester. Classes begin Jan. 23.
CWJC, a ministry of the Golden Triangle Baptist Association and Woman’s Missionary Union, offers free educational training for women, unemployed or underemployed, who need additional skills for life and for securing and sustaining meaningful work.
CWJC training is open to all women, regardless of religious beliefs or situations, in Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties. Program orientation will be Thursday, Jan. 18, with classes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 23. Classes will be conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 23 through April 19, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. In addition, time will be scheduled for program participants to complete computer lab projects. A concluding program celebration will held upon the completion of the training.
“CWJC is a significant, life-changing ministry for those who participate in the classes as well as the many volunteers who support the participants as instructors, meal providers, Christian Friends (mentors), leadership at the site, and donors providing clothing, funds and supplies,” said Helen Ward of Starkville First Baptist Church, assistant site coordinator.
“CWJC is truly a meaningful experience for participants and volunteers. As a volunteer I have been able to share skills developed over my career and through my own life experiences,” said Allegra Brigham of Columbus, a program volunteer.
For more detailed information about the program and how to apply, interested women should contact CWJC at 662-722-3016 or email [email protected]. Acceptance into classes is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Classes will be held at the CWJC site in Starkville at 207 S. Lafayette St.
A faith-based program, CWJC provides participants guidance in gaining life and job skills that will help provide personal stability in these areas. Classes include non-denominational Bible study along with instruction in basic computer skills, communications, resume’ writing, interview preparation, money management, conflict and anger management, marriage and family living, time management, decision making, and preparations for meaningful employment.
