ALICEVILLE, Ala. — The Aliceville High School football team opened the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A playoffs with a 46-14 victory against Samson on Friday night.
Aliceville (7-4) will play host to Luverne (10-2) in the second round Friday night.
For Aliceville, Xavian Wilkins ran for 157 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was on a 7-yard run. Kavon McGraw and Rodney Jones scored on 3-yard runs.
Jadarrius Simon threw two touchdown passes — one for 34 yards to Andrevious Johnson and one for 15 yards to Matthew Clark.
On defense, Justice Craig had a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Elijah Barnes and Craig had 10 tackles.
n Lamar County 35, Ider 7: At Vernon, Alabama, the Bulldogs advanced in AHSAA Class 2A playoff action.
Lamar County (7-4) will play Friday at Ranburne (5-6) in the second round.
n Gordo 34, Providence Central 7: At Gordo, Alabama, the Greenwave rolled in a AHSAA Class 3A playoff opener.
Gordo (10-1) will play Friday at Mobile Christian (8-3) in the second round.
Troy Garner Jr. led the way for Gordo with 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns (50 and 17 yards). Essie Davis scored on runs of 24 and 19 yards.
Davis had a 3-yard touchdown pass to Brantley Criswell.
n Pickens County 34, Meek 7: At Reform, Alabama, the Tornadoes breezed in the opening round of the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
Pickens County (9-2) will play host to Spring Garden (8-3) in the second round Friday night.
JaCaurion Washington scored three touchdowns to lead the Tornadoes.
On defense, Xyrion Giles had eight tackles, including five for loss.
n South Lamar 40, Decatur Heritage 39: At Millport, Alabama, the Stallions survived a shootout to advance in the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
South Lamar (8-3) will play Friday at Cedar Bluff (8-3) in the second round.
The Stallions stopped a two-point conversion with 1 minute, 39 seconds left to seal the victory.
Buster Griffin fueled the rushing attack with 213 yards and three touchdowns. Griffin scores on runs of 58, 57, and 20 yards. He also caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jack Dowdle.
Herachio Washington scored on a 44-yard run for South Lamar, while Jarrett Bryant returned an interception 60 yards for a score.
Grant Williams led the Stallions with 14 tackles, including a sack.
