Clay County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the Tuesday shooting deaths of two Tupelo residents, but Sheriff Eddie Scott said signs are so far pointing to a “drug deal gone wrong.”
Deputies arrested Shundray Johnson, 22, of Mantee, and Tabarrius Coffey, 24, of Calhoun City, on Friday morning for the deaths of 23-year-olds Kentario Boyd and Kenya Campbell. Both suspects have been charged with murder and their bonds set at $500,000.
Authorities discovered the victims’ bodies late Tuesday afternoon in a vehicle parked on the side of Dixie Road in rural Clay County. They had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and their bodies were sent to Jackson for autopsy. No details from those autopsies have been released.
Scott credited multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Department of Corrections, the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshal Service and sheriff’s offices in Calhoun, Chickasaw, Oktibbeha and Lee counties, for helping bring the suspects into custody.
As the investigation continues, he asked anyone with more information to contact CCSO at 662-494-2896 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
