Tyler Miguel Armistad, a 2013 graduate of Caledonia High School, was the recipient of several awards during the school’s Senior Awards Ceremony held May 14. Among them are the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, President Barack Obama’s Educational Achievement Award and Medallion, the Columbus Exchange Club’s Youth of the Year for Caledonia High School and Most Outstanding Senior Male Student.
He also received the Union Academy/Hunt and Columbus Connection Club Scholarship, an AP Honors Award Certificate and Medallion, an AP Ambassador Award, and Superintendent’s Honor Roll and Mississippi Scholars Certificates. He was also recognized for the highest average in English IV.
Armistad, who plans to pursue study in physical therapy, received scholarship offers from seven colleges, including Mississippi State University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Belhaven University and East Mississippi Community College.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan James Jr. of Caledonia and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Armistad of Macon.
