Former Chief Financial Officer Mike Bernsen was among those honored for their service to the city during Wednesday's meeting of the Columbus City Council. This was the council's first meeting of 2013.
Bernsen, former city prosecutor Tim Hudson and volunteer Tjajuan Boswell were recognized by Mayor Robert Smith and were given certificates acknowledging their years of service to the city.
The council also voted to pay Bob Oaks more than $500 owed to him in overpaid garbage fees. The money will be taken off of his monthly bill with Columbus Light and Water.
The council also unanimously approved a proposal to advertise city resources and adopt entry-level test scores for the Columbus Police Department. An outdated police community relations vehicle was deemed surplus property.
The council will next meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
