National Day of Prayer
On Thursday, May 3, people across America will be observing the 67th National Day of Prayer with the theme for 2018, “Unity.” The Columbus/Lowndes County observance will take place at noon on the lawn of the Lowndes County Courthouse. Second Avenue North in front of the Courthouse will be closed, but buses and vans can enter, discharge passengers and park. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the YMCA gymnasium.
The National Day of Prayer, held annually on the first Thursday in May, is a vital part of our heritage. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray together on this day. This is the seventh year the Christian Community in Prayer Committee, a group of lay people and clergy from various denominations, has sponsored this event. We look forward to joining with our neighbors for another special day. The program will include congregational singing, special music, Presentation of the Colors, and prayers led by local community leaders. Seating will be available. Beginning at noon, the program will conclude by 12:45 p.m.
The Christian Community in Prayer Committee encourages all who are able to join with us at the Courthouse on May 3rd as we pray for unity in our city, state, and nation.
