Mississippi’s open primaries
As a former elected city official, I know voters can easily get confused about who can vote during primary elections. Mississippi has an Open Primary law, which means voters are not tied to a particular party from one election to the next.
For example, Columbus will not have a Republican primary in the May 2 election, so voters may vote in the Democratic primary next week, then choose either party on June 6.
In Starkville, there will be different primaries on May 2, but still, the way someone votes does not tie them to that party for the June 6 election.
Having been the candidate of a tie election in the past, I truly appreciate that every vote counts. Please exercise your rights…be informed…and vote May 2 and June 6.
