Support our men in blue
I have never had a problem with our law enforcement. I have had my share of moving violations, speeding tickets. All of which I deserved. Sometimes I got a warning, but not often. I learned to slow down years ago. The point I am trying to make is, obey the law and you will have no problem. A blue light means stop, if an officer gives you a command obey it. There is no gray area about obeying a police officer.
Our city is on the right track now to improve our (it is each citizen’s) department. Dr. Turner is right; there is no quick fix. The police is only as good as the public they serve. We are in this together. Crime affect everyone whether it is in your neighborhood or not. The public are the eyes and ears for the police. See something say something should be our motto.
Sometimes it means getting involved. Saying thing are getting bad and sitting on your hand does not solve the problem. Attend any meeting there is, to give input to our city officials. The Ward 3 meeting last Tuesday night was an example. About 30 people attended. The input was great, but the number was disappointing. If we want to see change, we have to get involved. To take our neighborhoods back, get involved, look out for each other.
We have a great group of police officers in Columbus. A law officer is a called profession like a doctor, minister or lawyer. It isn’t for everyone because it is a thankless job until you need a policeman; then he or she is you best friend.
The bottom line is the police are only as good as the community support they receive.
God bless the Columbus Police Department.
