Salvation Army’s red kettle receipts up this holiday season
On Dec. 21 the Columbus Corps of The Salvation Army provided toys to 485 children, which represented 210 needy families. Food baskets were given to 158 seniors and disabled families. We would not have been able to do this without the kindness and compassion of citizens who put $69,055.86 in red kettles across our area.
This was an increase of $12,698.45 over last year’s total, but this is only a small part of the picture. Three hundred ninety volunteers rang the bell for a total of 629 hours, and brought in $22,618.80. This was an increase of 270 volunteers, 384 hours, and contributions totaling $12,698.45. God is good!
If you rang the bell, helped in our toy and food distribution, purchased gifts, helped count kettle proceeds, or put money in the red kettle, thank you. There is a line from a song in Les Miserables that says, “To love another person is to see the face of God.” We saw the face of God on a daily basis, and we have each of you to thank for that. May God bless you and yours in 2016.
