Appreciates stance on felons
I enjoyed Slim’s column in the Thursday, June 18, issue of the paper about convicted felons being denied good job opportunities. I totally agree with what he said. When people are convicted of a crime and pay their debt to society they are still, in a lot of cases, punished by society once released. Some crimes more so than others.
If these people can’t get jobs to support themselves they, more than likely, are forced back into a life of crime. I have emailed some of our legislators suggesting they educate and provide job training for inmates and offer businesses some sort of tax break or other incentive for hiring them once released. Without it, the cycle repeats itself. I got no response from our legislators.
Thank you for bringing this issue to the public. Maybe someone will step up and make a positive change.
