National Day of Prayer in Columbus
Thank you Columbus and Lowndes County residents for joining in the local observance of the 64th annual National Day of Prayer held May 7 on the lawn of the Lowndes County Courthouse. It was a beautiful day, sunny, warm and filled with praise and prayer.
The Christian Community in Prayer, sponsors of this event, would also like to thank everyone who helped make the day possible. Those who offered prayers included Allie Martin, Ryan Rickert, Hugh Saint, R.J. Matthews, Sandra DePriest, Anthony Brown, and Deborah Gardner. Praise music was lead by Todd Mordecai and the Missionary Union Baptist Church Choir. Many hard-working individuals along with the Columbus Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department, and assistance from several local churches and businesses helped to make this a very special time for our community.
This nation has a long history of recognizing the need for prayer and did, by an act of Congress and the president’s signature, set aside the first Thursday in May of every year as the official National Day of Prayer. In 2016, that will be May 5. Mark your calendars now.
