In defense of the South and Southern food
To begin, I know I risk the possibility of offending some military folks, but so shall it be. I read the article in Sunday’s paper about Lt. Doyle from Columbus Air Force Base.
He made it plain the only reason he says he likes the area is because he gets to teach new pilots. What other reason is there to live here? I do applaud him for wanting to train new pilots, but he can do that anywhere.
Why do I live here? Because I love the South, warts and all. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. You don’t like the food choices here? Get used to it. Most folks born here and real Southerners don’t eat tofu, humus and vegan. We like fried chicken, catfish, steak and almost anything barbecued. What we eat has been good enough for generations and it should be good now.
Too quiet for you, you need to be somewhere other than here. Even in the 21st century, thankfully things are still more relaxed here in the South than most places north and west of us.
That’s part of what attracts a lot of retirees to the South instead of the North. In general people here are more friendly and willing to help than some northerners to which I have been exposed. I will say this, I happen to know several retired military folks who loved the South enough to come back here to live.
Be careful what words you use when talking about a Southerner’s home, we can get really defensive and downright insulted when you don’t like our hospitality.
