In defense of Lynn Wright

A thorn to The Commercial Dispatch for publishing a negative opinion of Lowndes County Schools Superintendent Lynn Wright based solely on his failure to return phone calls. While many would agree that Mr. Wright has every reason to turn a deaf ear to you, I know him personally and assure you that he would not purposely do that.

Your opinion stated, "It is through the media that public officials are most accessible to taxpayers themselves." There is truth in that statement, but I disagree with the phrase "most accessible." As Superintendent, Mr. Wright's first level of accountability is to his employees and the almost 5,000 citizens that cast a vote for him. Perhaps if you had turned to any one of them, they would have offered an explanation for the unreturned calls or, at the least, assured you that there was one. More importantly, they would have readily assured you that his outgoing personality and exemplary leadership have already provided a morale boost through the District.

You would have found so many wonderful things to have an opinion about, not just in the case of Mr. Wright, but all of the administrators, faculty, staff and students of the Lowndes County School District. I, and the majority of your readers, would appreciate it if you would follow the age-old advice, "If you don't have anything good to say, then don't say anything at all."
