Somewhere in the Golden Triangle area is a very lucky family that would be planning a funeral today if it had not been for a very fast on his feet “good Samaritan.”
On a recent afternoon my husband and I rode down to the Lock and Dam in Columbus and were just sitting at the boat ramp parking lot and noticed three small children playing in the shallow water. The children appeared to be between the ages of 2 and 4 years old and were unattended.
There were some people off to our right and a man to our left, but all were 20 to 40 yards away. Just as I mentioned to my husband that there were probably drop offs out there the youngest little girl dropped out of sight. The older child pulled her up but she was flailing and he turned her loose and walked off. We started out of our truck but the good Samaritan beat us to her as she went down for the third time and was drifting further out.
The mother came and took the child and just walked off, spanked three children that were playing and left the other young child in the water. The man with them continued fishing as the good Samaritan tried to dry off his wallet. His wet cell phone is history. When I said something about the phone he was quick to tell me that the phone could be replaced but the child couldn”t. Don”t you wonder why no one even said thank you. So who ever you are, thank you and may god bless you for saving that child.
